more citation collection in hierarchical (mind map) form you can write there, but its primary function is collect excerpts. But I'm also concerned that I won't be able to optimize my studying since Remnotes is geared towards active recall. I'm don't know if it's worth doing because I'm concerned that this workflow would be a waste of time since Marginnote allows you to create outlines and automatically generate cards as well. Especially since Marginnote still doesn't have options to export to Remnote so I would have to export it to other apps and then copy and paste it to Remnotes. I did some research to compare the two, it seems like Remnotes is better for creating flashcards and has more customizable features that allow you to connect ideas better.įor those who have used both apps, which one do you like more and why? Also, I know that some people use Marginnote handwrite annotations on PDFs and then export the notes to Remnnote, but I'm worried that workflow would eventually be annoying since I have to use 2 different apps. However since it has a hierarchy and organizes the deck better. It's also similar to Remnote in that Marginnote has the ability to auto-generate flashcards from notes as well. I also really like Marginnote's mind mapping and the fact that you can use it on iOS. It really upsets me that Remnotes doesn't have this ability. I really like the fact that Marginnote has the ability to handwrite annotations on PDFs. I was really excited when I discovered Remnotes because it was the solution to my problem of wanting autogenerated cards from my outlines.īut now, I stumbled across Marginnote3 and am conflicted on which app I should use. I tried to rewrite notes by hand using Goodnotes, but that took too much time as well. The problem with this is that it's not organized so I like to make outlines from the slides so I can have all the information condensed and easy to read. I also wanted to create outlines because my notes from lectures are just powerpoint slides that I annotate using Goodnotes. I've used Quizlet for over 6 years, but I really wanted to change my workflow because creating flashcards individually was becoming ineffective as it was really time consuming. I’ve used it for getting more out of books on productivity, in-depth reviews of academic papers, and technical documentation I need to squeeze the important elements from.I've only recently started using Remnotes to study for pharmacy school. MarginNote is a niche player in the space of studying and researching based on a book, document, or academic paper.

I am still waiting for the macOS update that syncs with the iOS version, but the streamlined UX and new features make it worth the wait to stick to my studies on my iPad Pro 10.5” device. MarginNote 3 is a recent update that streamlines and refines the previous version called Margin Note Pro with the companion MacOS Margin Note X with iCloud sync. This means that when I go back to a study subject like building habits or rituals, I can go to my study note in MarginNote and my reference-able captured notes in DevonThink. MarginNote gives me the ability to extract portions of these and link to resources online or in my personal database in DevonThink. The resources available online only make this more expansive and to capture much of that I use a tool called DevonThink. One of the habits I developed in my personal growth is the taking of physical margin notes that help me summarize the themes and ideas and capture my related thoughts that often cross books or other reference-able materials.

It is able to take his timeless encounter with the written word and translate it to a connected world of content. It fits very well with my love of the book “How to Read a Book” by Mortimer Adler. I like the way it enables you to take eBooks and bring them into a study environment that allows you to capture quotes, organize them into a hierarchy and make the read content a graphic and structural capture of your last reading of the document. The MarginNote app is in a class of applications that help you capture and do more with your studies.
